AUDIO MEDIA & INFORMATION
WHAT IS AUDIO MEDIA AND INFORMATION?
Audio media is a kind of media resource which uses recorded audio materials for communicating and delivering information.
REFLECTION:
Why is there a need to understand audio media and information?
As earphones, headphones, and gadgets are attached to ears of the majority, it is no doubt that audio media and information is the “now” thing. It would be wise to use this interest/ trend to learning. There is a need for audio media and information when recording distinct characteristics as in vocal works where vocal quality, dynamics, intensity, expression, inflections, stops, slides, etc. are most important. Audio media also captures the setting – a countryside interview, news done in a warzone, etc., contain audio information which be difficult to include in text.
Criteria for consideration of audio-based media and information for the integration to the lesson:
(1) If the audio is used for teaching language, the recording to mixing to rendering has to be clean since this would be the primary reference, it shouldhave some space to offer some time for the listener to repeat or respond to questions, as in a dialogue, (2) Format in saving should be considered since at times, a particular format couldn’t include extreme range, (3) If the audio is used to draw out creative writing, then, care should be taken insong selection and choice of proper sound system- Same goes for audio used to feature composers’ works, music history and trends, western and non western history, early childhood education, sped, music and movementt, music therapy, etc., (4) Other considerations (for audio production): Proper labelling, dating, filing, etc. needed especially for editing, credits and acknowledgements, and the teacher has firm grasp of how to care and to use the available gadget/equipment.
