MEDIA AND INFORMATION LITERACY

REFLECTION
Media and Information Literacy provide the people with proper skills that would allow them to effectively use and engage with media and other sources of information for learning. It helps them develop critical thinking, and other skills needed as members of a community where technology is already integrated into.
The aspect of media and information literacy that I value most is the fact that information is made available for everyone willing to learn. Personally, I am not much into institutionalized learning. I believe that education can happen everywhere, and should be accessible to everyone.
In the Philippines, a lot of people have access to digital information, especially for the middle class. However, they only comprise a small percentage of the total population. There are still a lot of people that do not have the proper education, much less access to resources that would allow them to reach the level of literacy needed in order to be considered as media and information literate.
For the education system, most of the teachers that have high positions in school were not able to obtain training since it was not yet available before. This could be worked on by providing schools with sufficient material for training and making sure that the facilities are enough. Media is a powerful tool, and it did not come with an instruction manual. While the current generation is already exposed to technology, I believe that proper guidance is still needed in order for them to fully realize its potential.
